Depends on the laws in your state. The laws are also based on the qualifications of the person who will be doing the teaching in the home school setting (usually the parents). Some states are very liberal in that regard and as such, anyone can be a teacher, other states such as PA require that the primary teacher have a high school diploma. NY says a person is a competent home school teacher if they can follow the regulations (ominous sign there).

Wait a minute, there's laws for being homeschooled? That's stupid!

I used to be homeschooled, and it felt alien compaired to public school. Kids were actualy nice to me in Homeschooling. I thought "You're trying to socialise with me? really?" I hate public schools to... deeply. No public school will have my support.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Autism Speaks will NEVER speak for me

I was homeschooled. Call me crazy but I think it hurt more than helped since I didn't learn basic social skills (I know social aspects relate to AS) but I go in behaving a certain way and people are upset when IMO I'm just being myself. I guess all in due time right since I haven't learned any social skills. :-)

I homeschooled. I had very little, if any socialization with anyone my own age. I didn't really miss it at the time. When I was in school I was mostly just picked on anyway, didn't really have any friends. It was quite nice to be left alone. My mom worked all day and more or less left me to my own devices. This did not leave me with much of a work ethic or much in the way of social skills, but I seem to be doing alright now :).

I was home schooled from 6th grade through high school.
I had more interaction with other kids my age in a year of homeschooling than during all of grade school.

My mom joined a home school group where families got together about every other week for some sort of activity.
The parents would take turns doing different subjects. My mom taught some home ec stuff with sewing and quilting. Others taught a foreign language, or music or art. Another would do a cooking class.
Other times we would go on field trips to museums and zoos just like normal schools do. One parent formed up a basketball team that I played on and we played against some of the local high schools.

The only friend that I have kept for long was one I met in this group. We still talk and do things together.
