I need /your/ advice for my college on dealing with ASDs*

Hello,

I'm a student (obviously) who has been recently diagnosed with HFA and the problem is that my college, although well-meaning, has little to no knowledge about autism or my needs, for example, my mentor seems to be under the impression that the more autistic you are= the more articulate you are!

So, what I am trying to do for my college is create a little booklet of information on the needs of students with autistic spectrum disorders (and maybe on co-morbid conditions too).

I would like the content presented to be as helpful and informative as possible and so I am intending for a variety of sources to be used as a basis.

But some personal accounts/ advice would be *invaluable*, so if you are an autistic/aspergian college student your imput in the form of a post or pm to me would be really helpful. For example, it could be in the form of a typical day at college and the problems vs solutions you encounter or just a brief summery of how the college facilitates your needs vs other students' needs.

The reason I am doing this is because I think the college and future students with ASDs would benifit greatly. I need no personal details, but I will credit the users at 'Wrong Planet'.

ps If I don't get any replies from here I may try autism speaks SN, but I'm not sure if I want be subjected to 'advice' from John Best and his accociates, I have a feeling that would take the form of an angry rant on how 'real' autistic people can't go to college.

There is alot of information there, so you will need to condense it, but it should be a good starting point. As for the problems faced by a college student, it depends alot on the situation. People living at home and just attending a tech school might not have any issues at all. People living in a noisy dorm room taking classes like english poetry, or other such annoying classes will have more problems. Its hard to give advice unless you define your situation better.
