The student services people are nice, they were the ones who told me I almost certainly have an ASD
If your UAI is too low for the uni you want to get into, you can also:
- shop around for other unis, if you do really well you can consider applying to transfer course/uni
- you can go to TAFE etc and study a few year 12 subjects to improve your score, and apply again
Also if you intend to start uni next year, try to be proactive about it now. Call up or email or visit in person the uni that you wish to go to for possible pathways (from my friends' experiences, email is actually a very viable option if you dislike the phone)
There also might be information on that HSC forum www.boredofstudies.org if you go hunting around on it (I used to go there before us VCE-ers made our own site
)
I personally didn't have trouble getting in, easily got into my first preference
Edit: Also in victoria, the company that deals with our uni applications and dishes out places has something called SEAS - Special entry access scheme, where you can apply under about 9 different categories for a number of things (financial difficulties, home difficulties, illness, basically everything that would have affected your ability to study in the long term). Maybe in NSW you have something similar?
