For so many with ASD SCHOOL often just does not work, was just thinking about this and I feel the main reason MONEY! well as I see it all neurological conditions should be under one big autism umbrella, and I think every child should have an overall assessment for neurological differences and as has been said up to 40% of all children have to some degree, and then work with there strengths and weaknesses.

The current system with some asd children, its like throwing the injured to the wolf pack at times, why it continues in this day and age amazes me. It is about time everyone got behind the next generation of children, communities as every child has a right to an education, does not happen and some barely survive school, the bulling continues....

It amazes me that many of the so called do good groups often only support "nice families" too many rules, and those in real need so often no one seems to have the time of day for. Of course there are some great programs and inspirational people who really do help, but not enough. Still I guess the existing school system does not suit many children and for real change the whole system needs to be looked at if you ask me!

But without the government backing / funding this will never happen and still real awareness needed for all in regards to asd children... I guess the old answers if you have money no problem, if not your problem... I guess a way of control, but feel we all need to get together and support the future generation of children...

One way is to start a charter school. But it's incredibly hard. I don't know how it works in New Zealand and Singapore. If not a charter school, maybe some kind of private or church school.

Around here, the laws exist that would allow public funding for a different kind of school.
Even in NJ, considering the global economy and the current mood of state officials, I don't think I would try it at this moment, even if I had a group of people with the right talents and passions.

However, the planning phase takes years anyway. The original kids who inspire a charter school are usually too old to benefit by the time it's up and running. You could do a some research and start collecting families who might be interested in helping. By the time you're ready, the world will be completely different and it might just fly.

Age 18 is a good time to start. By the time your kids are ready for school, you might even have a place for them to go. Or think of the grandchildren.
