Restricted interests and social contacts
As an aspie, I am prone to obsessions with certain topics. Right now my special interests are psychology, creative writing, and animals.
My interest in psychology serves me well in university (it is my major and I get mostly As in my psych courses), but not everyone wants to listen to stuff on brain disorders or the research project I'm involved in. I find myself talking more to the professors than to my classmates.
I also find I spend a lot of my time on creative writing forums and chats, discussing aspects of writing. This and talking to my profs fulfils most of my social needs.
My Mom is very patient with much of my conversations being about "pet topics" but I wonder if I should be trying to branch out more at school? I just don't feel like asking people what they did on Friday night, about their relationships etc.
I'm happy spending my time outside of school alone and with my family and animals. I don't want a lot of outside contact. I'm happy with my life now, but I'm wondering if living it this way will leave me alone in the world someday.
