Comorbid Diagnoses
I have just been diagnosed with both Bipolar Affective Disorder in addition to high functioning ASD. I am interested to know what co-morbid conditions other might have. Particularly interested in any comments you might care to add concerning how they interact. Is the sum greater than the parts (ie - Is the interaction worse than just having the two diagnoses separately)?
It's difficult to drag diagnoses out of the psychologist I see because he believes the brain is too complicated and humans are just starting to understand it. He's more into Freud and Jung. He did say "your behavior is consistent with Asperger's, you have a deep depression" and he thought I might have a generalized anxiety disorder and/or OCD. He talked about avoidant personality disorder traits.
I'm not sure how they interact. It just seems to be a bit of a jumble and mess. I think the interaction probably makes my self-esteem sink more than just having the different diagnoses separately.
