How the HELL do you GET the experience if NO ONE GIVES YOU A CHANCE? If I want to be an ACCOUNTANT, am i supposed to have been born a savant and gotten an accounting job at age SIXTEEN? HUH?! Honestly, I'm so sick and tired of seeing NTs get spoiled by employers, while we're stuck stoking the coal!

You're griping about a Catch-22 NTs and people with AS struggle with.

Most people do small jobs, prove they are responsible, then use their social skills and social connections to move on to better opportunities. That's where people with AS are at a severe disadvantage. You can be the best worker at the grocery store, but other than a promotion at that store, how are you to become an accountant?

In spite of having AS, you're forced to seek out some accounting business that will put you to work so you can gain "relevant experience" in the field you want to actually work in....that, or know someone who is an accountant who is willing to put a good word in for you so someone will give you an entry-level job.

Really? I've never earned more than the equivalent of $8/hr & I have no degree. I must be in the wrong area, b/c you can't get anything that pays decently w/o a degree here.

In my experience, employers value experience far more than education. I've known lots of high school grads who made more than I ever have ($13/hr. is the most I've ever pulled in) although it was always in some type of manual labor. Maybe I'm just screwed because I received a liberal arts education.

Exactly what I'm asking here! I started at the ret*d grocery store at the age of sixteen in 2002, when I was still in high school! I didn't choose to work there, nor do I plan on working there for the rest of my life! WHat can I do to gain the skills needed to become an accountant?!

You also quoted my best advice.

Find someone willing to give you an entry-level job or help you get one. NT or AS, the game is the same.

It's true, one doesn't need higher educational qualifications for a variety of things, but if you do, your emplyability increase as does your wage (in most cases).

If you really detest school (I can understand), try and maybe get more qualifications, but in a way that suits you. Like via distance education. That is how I am getting my degree, which is great, as I can do thing sI enjoy but do not have to bother with most university aspects.

That, or networking. But I suck at networking.
