In my excitement, determination, and obsession to get a particular job, I sent in the application form too early. I know about the job because I know the business owner. The job will be advertised on a particular website and that's when the application is supposed to be sent. I thought maybe I had missed the advertisement/posting and so I went ahead and sent everything in.

Did I totally screw up? I feel stupid. Is there a way to fix this? They sent me an email letting me know that they're not ready for application submissions. I need to email them back. Is there something I can say that will fix my mistake and not make me look so darn stupid? I might be making a mountain out of a molehill, but I'm a bit of perfectionist who likes to follow the rules, so I feel really stupid about my mistake.

Short of needing special information (job listing number) because some central HR office sorts applications for consideration, I don't think it should matter. Worst case...send it again with any omitted information after the ad comes out.

If you've already sent them an email saying sorry about too early app will resubmit when time comes, I think that's okay. If you haven't yet sent them an email, maybe not sure what to say, maybe it didn't quite feel right, I think that's okay, too. Either one is okay. As long as it's light-touch, medium touch and matter of fact. And then, just resubmit the application when the time comes.

And the fact that you have excitement, determination, even obsession for this job, I think that's a good thing. You have energy for this positive thing. The only thing I might suggest, perhaps also look into taking a couple of classes this Summer, or maybe even consider starting a side business you can run out of your home or car. That is, I'm a big believer in getting multiple positives going at the same time.

Agreed. The only time I have ever seen this be a problem is with government jobs and even then the worst that happened was that they rejected it and asked to the person to wait.
