"A group of people (aspies) who are generally smart and hard working don't do as well as the average, lazy, person with a nice smile and firm handshake."

I have a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering and have nearly straight A's and A+'s in all of my courses and I have not been able to find a related job/career in 3 years.

JFK put it most succinctly- "life is unfair."

So why don't you practice a nice smile and a firm handshake? Have a friend help you. One of the best traits we aspies learn is how to "fake it". It's only for a few hours. Just long enough to get the job.

Then you need to/seek employment in another state or something. there's currently a shortage of electrical engineers, as well as the related fields.
What did you specialise in?

Some might say there's nothing wrong at all. Things just are how thy are. We can find ways to adapt to that, I think. Doesn't necessarily have to be by 'faking it', I don't think. Just have to find an adaptation that works: works for us and works in the world. I'm not saying that's easy or even possible, but that, somehow must be the way forward.

Maybe this is just an uncomfortable truth that I am seeking to avoid, but I don't agree that manipulation is particularly essential to progression in the world of work and earning a living. I would have thought that desire, determination, ability, and good fortune would be just some the features more basic to progressing in one's work life.

It's not about what you know, it's about who you know. And if you want to get people to do you favours to help your career, you need to manipulate them. When people are nice to those they dislike because they have connections, that's manipulation, for example. It's not like you need to be sociopath or anything (though it would help), but manipulation gets you far.

If I where to attempt to learn this skill I am sure the nausea I would feel most of the time due to how disgusted I would be with myself...would totally put a damper on any benifits I might get out of it making it not worth it. Maybe this means I am simply not career material.

Why would you be disgusted with yourself? All NTs manipulate each other anyway, it's not like you're doing anything they don't do themselves.

It does feel dodgy though. The worst part for me was the feeling of someone believing we were involved. I hate that. But think of this: crazy people will ALWAYS play themselves and believe comforting lies. Maybe it's best to be the person providing the BS storyline for them?

Because I don't like being manipulated nor do I like to manipulate others.

Honestly, yes, most people do indeed almost want to be manipulated because it comforts them to be bullshitted. People love BS. They gob it up faster than an extra large pizza.
