The cons are so true hehe! And what you said about jobs(ish) holds true as well. All the non-profits that had to cut down on regional staffing certainly still have their big office in DC.

I was offered a job there that I ended up turning down because living NEAR the job would've meant I had to live in an awful neighborhood (since the job didn't pay enough to live in the nearby nice neighborhood)...or I could spend a LOT of time commuting each day. I love the metro, but sometimes I get totally freaked out while I'm waiting for trains to come in some of the smaller stations. I'm a paranoid person by nature, and the combination of feeling like there is no escape route because I'm deep underground + "strangers" can sometimes be a lot for me to handle.

If you're moving there for a job, you should get good relocation assistance from your company! Ask for it if it hasn't already been offered. Post to Craigslist too...ask opinions.

I am also considering Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.

If you consider moving to the East Coast, I'd start in Pittsburgh over DC. I'm not sure quite what the job market is there, except I know some of my cousins work down there. It's also far cheaper and has a more manageable pace of life.

Pro:

DC hasn't been slammed as hard by The Great Recession.

I heard housing is easy to find in DC

Nice, clean, not very dangerous city

Con:

DC is only 35 square miles

A job that you will find will likely be working for the government

Get a bicycle or a motorcycle, because someone said DC traffic sucks...

MOVE TO PORTLAND TIM!

I heard LA traffic is even worse than DC.

LA is the second-most populated city in the country, right behind NYC.

Job market in LA sucks...
