Do other Aspies work slowly physically?

I think that's one of the things that screwed me over when I was working the stocking job at a home improvement store. They never assigned a department for me so I was just running around all over the place. It was not very pleasant at all... The environment changed every night and I had to memorize everything... Mind you, that's a LOT. It was a huge store/warehouse or w/e.
Funny thing is, I felt I was actually getting used to it eventually, but apparently I still wasn't good enough so my hours were cut to almost nothing and everyone was giving me a hard time so I had to say f**k it. No one can live like that, with such little pay and belittling treatment. I have a family to support ffs, but who cares, right?
I had to quit so I can get my financial support back, like I said, can't support a family working two days out of the week - the bastards.

I think so. I worked at a printing press one time and didn't last two weeks.

Ew, I hate printing presses! They were easy to operate but it definitely requires a lot of speed, perfection and surprisingly enough, social skills.

Yes absolutely! In just about every job I ever had my fastest speed was the average of everyone else. To my credit though I was better skilled at the tasks than anyone else and more precise which some managers really liked! So special projects always went my way.

The euphemism my boss used was 'lacks a sense of urgency'. It was a polite way of saying I was lazy and slow.

I have found it going both ways.

Some jobs I could work 2 kids into the ground easily (like unloading outboard motors from a truck they have a heavy end and a light end of the box I could always tell light end from heavy end as I reached for the box if you keep the heavy end close to you the job will go faster and wear you out less - the NT kids on my crews never could figure that out). Other jobs I was quite slow (like pulling networking cables).

It seems to me if I could use my problem solving to pull things together efficiently I did the job faster than the NTs that worked with. If the job just required simple brute effort I will be slow at that job.

Yep, I've been accused of being too slow. I'm a perfectionist and like someone said, struggle to know what counts as good enough.

Weird thing is, in that job they wanted speed and accuracy. In my opinion you can't have both; it's one or the other. It caused me no end of stress and I'm very glad I don't work there anymore.

Yes! I've been told at certain times that it was as if I moved in slow motion. It's usually when I'm doing something new to me, but also any really physical work I'm slow at. I'm a clumsy aspie, though, so maybe the two go together. I have trouble walking around the house or yard without bumping into things.

Its the neurotypicals that are too slow. If neurotypicals are fast why do they fight workplace automation?

Right then, I am pretty sure I process things more slowly then a neurotypical......I can think of a number of examples that point to this. Quit with the us vs. them crap.

Well tell your boss to buy you a faster computer.

why assume I'd have a computer job?

If my Boss tells me I am too slow I tell him it is because I don't use methamphetamine.

Yeah, I've worked in daycares and I was pretty slow when it came to helping the children with their outdoor clothes, dressing them, serving them snack and cleaning. It was hard but my advice would be to just try your best.

Well I am sure if I took adderall would help me keep up with NTs on a job....lol
