I am 47 and looking back to where you are I can only say--don't listen to the naysayers.

Go after what you love most with everything you have and you will very likely succeed at it or something closely related.

If you are interested in meteorology, you probably know more about the Arctic an North Atlantic Oscillations than 99.9% of the population and can build on that knowledge to breeze through and enjoy university and professional training. Most people find the Atlantic and Pacific Multidecadal Oscillations pretty uninteresting. If you find them fascinating, you should absolutely go for it.

Follow your passion. Seriously, it's one of the most precious things this life has to offer.

one of my favorite people, the cosmologist Max Tegmark, has this quote on his website:

Quote:
Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
--Howard Thurman

When I was younger and read quotes like this I thought, "great, but what about my practical concerns today." Now I realize how practical this advice really is. Every time I have gone after the things that thrill and energize me, life has gotten better as a result. Every time I played it safe or followed stupid, conventional advice I lost precious time, energy and spirit.

Go grab that bright future!
