I need a ridiculous degree of predictability. I need to know what exactly I will be facing when I go to work. I need to be in control of my own little world, and not have my work affected by other people. I like to have a certain order, or procedure, to follow.
The two jobs I liked best were not exactly high-paying, so it would be great if I could find something of a similar nature that actually allowed me to live off more than mac-n-cheese, but I certainly don’t need steak and lobster every night. One was File Clerk - I spent 40 hours a week sorting, organizing, and filing paper, and also stuffing envelopes. This would drive most people batty, but I found it very calming and relaxing. Most importantly, I didn’t hate coming to work; and the other was stock clerk for a women’s clothing store - my job was to receive, unpack, security tag, and place hangers on new stock – I was put in the back room all by myself and didn’t even have to deal with co-workers, never mind customers. It was great. Unfortunately it paid next to nothing.
Would welcome any and all ideas...
Librarian? I think that's cool
Nah…. I could see it now: “Excuse me, could you help me find…..”, “Do have…..”, “Could you call any other libraries and see if they have…..”
I HATE being interrupted.
I see where you were going though.
I looked into doing a course to become a Medical Records Clerk once, but then I realized that the greater majority of the job is still spent dealing with people face to face, and very little actually managing paper files.
I think I’d enjoy working in a mailroom or something, but since it’s seen as the stereotypical ultimate entry-level job in the corporate world, every company gets literally hundreds of applications a day. And they only hire people who actually have a desire to move OUT of the mailroom someday.
In this world, if you have no ambition you’re kind of screwed.
Okay, sorry for the rant!
