I got to ask something, it is better to share things upfront, right? Like a couple jobs I applied to I did similar things in the past, but they mention "lift 50lbs" or "lift heavy objects" in the description. I've been honest upfront saying I have a weak muscle condition and in the past I got help lifting heavy things, but it would be sad if this is keeping me from doing jobs I'm otherwise qualifies for.

I would apply for jobs like that but mention that you can't lift 50 pounds without a helper. Maybe say you have a weight limitation of 25 pounds. (better state a positive "I can lift up to 25 pounds" than a negative "I cannot lift 50 pounds.")

If they are not getting qualified candidates, maybe they will relax the lifting requirement to recruit you.

One job was very specific and stated "frequently lift 10lbs, occasionally 25, sometimes 50" I told them because of weak muscles I would need help with 50. They said that was okay, they would consider me. Another job which is an AmeriCorps at a zoo it sounds right for me, except it put a general "lift heavy objects" in it's description. But other than that I should be a good fit for that one because I have the correct degree and more than enough experience it requires, they wanted someone that already had animal handling experience and I do.

The zoo one replied they would happily accommodate someone like me that would need help lifting heavy objects and will consider my application. Yay!

Oh good! I hope people are following this thread. It is frequently the case that someone does not meet EVERY stated requirement of a job; but often there is some room for flexibility.

Probably not much hiring going on between now and Tuesday, so have a nice weekend.

Also don't be TOO literal... Like this job says previous animal experience in a zoo, aquarium or museum but mine is in a nature center, I think that's close enough...

And Tuesday I still have that interview then I can kill two birds with one stone because I went to school in that town, I can stop buy the school administration building where my school records used to be at least to see if they are still there to get copies again.

Labor day? I need to think of something fun to do lol. Today was grocery shopping, why do I consider that fun lol!

Good luck with your interview tomorrow.

I actually had a pretty good Labor Day. I must have done 7 loads of laundry and some other housework. Many days I can't even hoist myself out of my recliner, so this was pretty satisfying.

As I said in the other thread, I ended up going to a kids birthday/pool party... For awhile I had to be the designated adult in the pool and I had kids hopping on my back wanting piggy back rides lol.

Oh - that could be fairly challenging. But I hope you did ok in the interview, anyway.

What's next? Got any other interviews scheduled?

Hmmm... I found one Federal position that I technically qualify for and there is an option to apply non-competitivively through Schedule A (disability) and I might get an interview from that, but I wish I had a bit more experience with bird banding... The job is part data entry and part actually doing bird banding and I've assisted with bird banding before but I'm not a master at it. I keep thinking someone with lots of banding experience would more likely get this one... Sadly most jobs that train banding are unpaid internships or pay very little.
