But I've spent at least 20 years not liking myself. That's a long time for it to get engrained into you.

belle,

When I received disability, I suddenly found myself without a job and surrounded by people who didn't expect me to be looking for one. It was strange at first, but I soon saw this wealth. A wealth of time.

I began to get involved in volunteer activities in my community. Some didn't work out. I simply walked away. But most did work out, and I am much more comfortable with NTs because I found a way to play a role in their lives without giving myself away.

Ten years later I moved from the big city to a small town and really got involved. I don't have any real friends, but lots of acquaintances and plenty of places to contribute using my creativity -- on my terms.

Forget about the BS label -- do what you like to do.

For others.

I tried ear phones at work, but they drove me crazy in my ears. I had to take them out. Plus I could still hear my office mates speaking (though it was a bit muted) and I also could hear something else. Don't know how to explain it.

Ugh.

Not sure what else to do, besides find a new job. :(

Dumb questions i'm sure you've covered,
how large is the office i.e. could you ask to work on a different floor or swapping with someone in a quieter area even though it may mean the people you need to interact with most maybe further away from you

Also could ask about working at home though i dont like that route

This career workshop was not fun the councellor kept on crossing out like EVERYTHING i had put down on my resume and when she asked why i looked so stressed first i got really angry and asked why she hated me (even thru she diddent say that) and than I asked why she was criticising me. After i cooled down i cryed and than said sorry i just put alot of effort into the resume. After that I apologised and said i had to get use to the changes she was making to it cause obviously she was the professional and knew what she was doing.

But the thing is does anyone else here have moments like these, bet everyone does.

No worries mate! It's great that you actually went to a workshop!

It will get easier, just don't get too stressed about it. The whole process is a dumb hurdle that everyone has to jump. Keep trying and you will get more and more comfortable in these types of situations. Remember that these people are trying to help you, which you already know.

Don't feel bad about not having a job. You find something soon enough, then you'll long for the days when you didn't have to work!

I guarantee you will succeed if you keep trying. It's inevitable! The most important thing is to be positive! That is what people will respond to!

Your right stewie thankyou for your feedback. The workshop did help my resume looks impresive it has skills down i never thought i had before. And i know never ever tell employers negative things bout yourself for example iv never had a job before i dont have any experiece. I recommend workshops but i wont be going back 4 a while i have volunteered today in a vinneys shop. Its a good feeling to help others you know. I couldent stop smiling after i left the shop. How about that for assertiveness 8)

Even with a university degree, getting a job can be very difficult. There are lots of people who are out of university who haven't worked either, and are older than 19.

I'm actually moving to a cube in the hall (I was snarky to a co-worker the day I wrote this and he intervened). I'll see how that goes. If it doesn't work out, I may have to quit. I just can't take this anymore.

I've had similar noise problems in the workplace -- loud talking co-workers, cell phones ringing all over the place with stupid ring tones, people yelling to someone else four cubicles away (and me in between them). I told them I had AS and needed a private office, but they wouldn't do that because they were too worried about "equity". Finally, I had really good luck with this software:

It might be worth a try ...
