I have issues with eye contact as well. I trained myself to analyze the symmetry of the persons face and such. Keeps me occupied, involved with the interview and appears that I am making eye contact... Had an interview today. had 2 intervies in the past few weeks.

The einterview I had today, did not ask many questions. Asked about my past experience and I went through the details. Also I gave a summary of what I would be doing in this job which pretty much summed up what the interviewer was going to ask anyways. This was for a position in the food industry as a quality control technician.

An interview I had a few weeks ago, I was asked a few questions, what did I do in several situations... This was for an construction inspector for a large city of a population ~110,000.

General questions were asked about experiences siilar to waht I would be feaced with in most circumstances working for the city. For example; A situation I was in charge of a construction crew and I had to make an important decision.... If I had to fire anyone or deal with issues from a contractor, etc... Then took a math test in that I had to do some computations of tons of asphalt needed for paving a section of road or concrete needed for a certain length of feet of concrete curb and gutter.

The questions will vary due to the position that a person is being interviewed for and the type of work or expertise involved.

I have done interviews ~15 years ago when I worked at McDonalds as a manager.

Common questions I can still remember;

If we contacted your previous employer, will they...
(1) - rehire you or
(2) - give you a good recommendation
(3) - did you miss many days of work or late?

Whatever you're asked DO NOT blame anyone for loosing a job or such, dont bring anything personal up at the table. Answer their questions as best as you can but with as little as you can say.

If you were fired, be brief but cover enough.

If you were laid off, you do not need to justify that. Just saying you were laid off because of lack of work is suffecient. Or if you quit, you quit because the job was not what you expected or challenging. DO NOT say anything like you had issues with your boss, fighting with employees or other things like that... THAT is major red flags and you will not be hired.
