An MA does bolster the resume and on average does lead to an increase in salary. However, I am not sure what you would do with an MA in social science or whether it would be worth the additional debt. If you expect to work in another field, you may want to consider a masters in that field.

Don't most people with a BA in Political Science (which so happens bot to be associated with any science department) go for a law degree? At least that is the usual course of action. But, I gave someone advice a few years ago that had a BA in Political Science.

I did the law school path, but by the end of it, I knew it wasn't for me. The work involves tedious work that can't hold my interest and I became disgusted with the profession as a whole. I didn't worry because they said a person can do anything with a J.D. degree, but the truth is that people see that degree and won't hire you. It also didn't help that I graduated right after 9/11, so I've been competing with people with a lot more "in field" experience that I have.

I work, but a much lower wages than I should be making, but in this economy, I'm lucky to just have a job at all.

law has to be the worst possible thing you can go into right now. Expensive as hell, boring, time consuming, and 98% of the time does NOT lead to a lucrative job. Yes, I was going to go to law school, but by the time I finished my BA and did the research, I realized it was a mistake and I should've taken a different educational path altogether.
