Here are the fields I wish to go into (in ascending order of desirability):

1. Journalism, especially financial journalism
2. Public relations
3. Strategic communications
4. lobbying
5. advertising
6. sales

If I can't get a good journalism job (which is very likely), I want to start freelance writing. I think I will profile local business and local business climates or something like that.

I am a registered nurse in learning disability

I've been....

A staff nurse in a home for quite disturbed and rather tragic cases of people with autism. I left the job after I whistleblowed the manager and they tried to constructively dismiss me. Won't be going back to the private sector ever again

A Team Manager for three supported living homes for a well known UK based charity. Had some great times with this job but the multi-tasking, workload and dealing with "staff" all the time took its toll and I burned out from excessive workload.

I'm looking to get into...

1. Becoming an employment specialist for people with disabilities (learning or other) and mental health problems. The welfare state has no money so im totally screwed here

2. Becoming a staff nurse in the NHS, they have no money so im totally screwed again

3. I'd rather be a rent boy then work for the private *spit* sector again, they have no money as well, common theme here

I'm currently unemployed, temporarily looking for IT work (computer-repair) in the Portland Oregon area. My previous job was an IT Technician position at a high-school, and before that I interned at a graphic-design studio where I gained education, training, and experience in graphic-design, website-design, and video-production; in addition to being their IT Assistant. I eventually want to go back to college, or self-study while I'm waiting to pay off my previous college debt. There are many free open-content education resources available (videos/ebooks/etc) on hundreds of subjects. I would make a list of links, but my 5-post requirement hasn't been met. However, you could search iTunes University, Academic Earth, Free Video Lectures, or Lecture Fox.

Some of the subjects I want to study are Materials Science, Bioengineering, Biomimicry, and Nanotechnology; and use that learning to (hopefully) help advance science and technology in relation to sustainability and/or regenerative-medicine. For example, subverting the aging-process and/or creating solar-cells mimicking photosynthesis and/or nanofabrication (3d-printers) that can print anything from food and clothing to nanoelectronics. I realize that is a bit over-ambitious, however, so I'm probably going to first focus on nanofabrication.

Ive been in IT as a computer tech and office support ... ive done sales (and hated it)... last stint was as a travel agent which I enjoyed a lot (except the sales part of it.. i was lucky my job was 80% support role and 20% sales or id've gone insane).

got tired of not finding something I liked plus the pay was never anything much above the minimum wage.

so now im burning all my reserve cash into university.

Doing a double major.. anthropology (focus on archeology as intended MA is archeology) and history (focus on SE asia/oceania) and minors in asian humanities, writing and comparative world studies... and certificates in crime scene investigation and cultural tourism.

I figure a job where I have to put intense focus, lets me travel around the world, has little social interaction and pays relatively well is worth the effort and the investment. :)

I'm currently in the midst of a MSW [taking a bit of a break to access options at present]. I have one year to go, have done some clinical work with clients, performed and written psychosocial assessments and reports, etc. It's not the social work profession that I have a problem with, but rather some issues which might be caused by ASD, the main one being issues with empathy and self-reflection. Social work has a strong emphasis on those areas and I've found that I've been hampered by this.

As a bit of a fun sideline, I write music reviews - mainly reviewing CDs, but I have also reviewed festivals and gigs. I get paid, although it's not much. I also do live band photography. That's about the extent of my contribution in the media so far. I've been mildly tempted into journalism but I'm not so flash with interviews and also, competition in journalism is quite heavy because basically, supply far exceeds demand.

I was a web designer and web content writer in the past. I was self-taught and it was basically a hobby that went a bit further than I expected. I also did some work on a local government intranet, mainly designing and organising and generating content, and I also did a bit of work with redesigning their website.
