What you can do over and over every day for months and years on end will depend entirely on you and your personal interests/obsessions. As I'm sure you already know, if it feels important and valid to you, you'd do it whether they paid you or not. If it seems meaningless and dull, no amount of money will be enough to force you to focus on the task.
For me, working in a room alone, playing music and talking to myself (as a radio DJ) was a dream job. Now, the ritual of tattooing is calming and absorbing for me.
The problem throughout has been fitting into a workplace with humans, specifically the personality types that gravitate toward management positions. They can't stand individuals who genuinely 'think outside the box' and adopt methods different from the rest of the herd. In my experience that's the trickiest part of maintaining any job. Not getting fired for being different.
