Has anyone had to unofficially supervise any staff in their current/past positions?

When I return to work on Monday, Ill find out whether a Skillseeker Ive been training has managed to secure an apprenticeship with his local Council.

Ive found myself unofficial trainer of him since last August, and there has been a lot of pressure on me to ensure he is organised and busy.

My already-overworked mind has had to prioritise for TWO people instead of one on an almost-daily basis, and Im shattered with it.

There is now talk that another Skillseeker may be replacing the current one, with more focus on them working with my department on a fulltime basis.

Anyone got ideas on how I can cope?

I've supervised other soldiers in the past in the Army and the best way I found to cope with it was to not think of that person as another entity to take care of but an extention of yourself, someone who you can share tasks with, etc.

Then again, my work is probably very different than yours but it's good to change the way you perceive the relationship if it might help.

My 2 cents.

I have to lead two teams at work. One team consists of older Ph.D.s who have some idea of what they're doing. All I have to do is coordinate. The other team is less-trained and incompetent. The latter is a nightmare. I might as well do everything myself, because I have to tell them what to do all the time. I further have to rely on my nonexistent empathy to know how to handle them psychologically and to sense when they're having difficulty, but not telling me. Cue "The Impossible Dream".
