Hi I have a masters in neuroscience. I am very interested in the area of neuroscience and interested in getting into research at a university. However I am not very good with people and am quite socially phobic, I have tried to get a referral from my doctor to get treated with no luck. If I work in research I will need to present at conferences and take classess of students. I am very tempted to give it up and go for something that is intellectually challenging but involves little people contact. Anyone have any ideas?

Ohhhh, you mean no personal, face-to-face contact.

When I read the title I thought you meant working with dwarfs.

you can be a lab tech or assistant at a university or other research institution. still you'll need to talk to people that you work with. also i believe national labs can be a good place because things are more steady there, less people rotations than in academia.
regarding presentations, i typically write papers and avoid conferences. it is not ideal but one can get by.
