Is there any Aspies around who want to be finacially well off in the future or are already financially well off? (What I mean by financially well off is that you have a really cool career you enjoy and you can even afford a luxury car and a nice house too). Because I am an Aspie who is seriously looking into being financially well off in the future.

I'll add to the question on the related book on WP home page...
Has anyone read it and had any increased financial gain via its content?

Being well off and having nice things are two completely different viewpoints. Usually people are in the money pit because they buy nice things!

The majority of wealthy people live like they are average lower middle class. They never buy fancy homes or cars rather they put money into income producing assets like business, rentals, or stocks. If your really interested in becoming wealthy I'd recommend reading "The Millionaire Next Door" or "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"

I have always lived in a very financially conservative manner and it has paid off. When the economy collapsed and my engineering career went to China I didn't lose my house and have the money to go to school and pursue a new career. It's not what you make but what you keep. Lot's of nice things are a waste of time and money. Best thing is to save and invest wisely.

Well, I'd like a career as a scientist. Is that considered cool? As far financially well off, I don't plan to be rich, but comfortable to enjoy living in a nice area (don't mind an apartment) with an OK car, and to enjoy some finer things in life such as attending classical music concerts.

I want to be wealthy enough that I don't have to ever worry about money, no more, no less. I don't care about having the best of everything but would like a nice house (not a giant mansion) since I will be in it for most of my time.

There's not really any career where you can be a "scientist". You have to pick a field which is usually quite narrow.'

You probably knew that, but I remember when people in primary school wanted to be "scientists" where they invisioned themselves blowing stuff up all day and never taking notes on anything.

I plan to be a geneticist/ cellular biologist/ biochemist. Working in one of those research insitutes/universities.

Yeah, in school we thought - me included - that scientist were mad people who made weird things. But later as I read more into it their jobs are fairly "normal". The best thing is you can be academic, intellectual and intense.

My aspie dad is a lawyer and his traits don't exactly help him. I often suspect that if he became an academic he would be more respected.

Sounds interesting, I always liked reading about genes and cells. And I'm sure most people dropped the scientist goal once they read what it was actually about.

I THINK I AM A SCIENTIST WHO MAKES WEIRD THINGS.
If not, what do you call someone who makes weird things?
Inventor and engineer don't seem to fit. They don't do enough making.

I guess I am unlabeled and outside the box then, and in general.

Unemployed?

No, I don't really know.

I want a lot of money not because I want fancy cars and a nice house. The only reason I want financial independence it is so I don't have to work, I get depressed when I work and get anxiety attacks just thinking about getting a job, my passion (obsession) won't let me get treated by a psychologist otherwise I'll lose that :(

I want to be a multimillionaire with enough money to be on rich lists. I plan to be worth at least £100,000,000 (though I may have to adjust that for inflation).

I may not be able to understand this world or fit into it, but with observation I can exploit it for my own personal gain. By that I mean that I'm not integrated into the world as NTs are, I observe it as an outsider. This gives me the advantage of easily looking past the normal things people do in their lives (the normal get a job, get married, have kids stuff). I guess I have different priorities to most people too really. And I'll use my attention to detail and the observations I make to see what business I can do next.

I want to do it for many reasons, but I've been thinking recently that a main one is simply to prove that I can. To prove to the world that I, and perhaps even Aspies in general, are worth something, and are hugely underestimated. My companies will acively seek out Aspies when we come to hiring people too. I also plan to donate lots of money to autism charaties.

I've also been thinking of it from another angle... When you read about savants, you'll often hear them saying they like numbers and maths because it's something in this complex world which they can control and predict. Maybe that's another element to my attraction to money? In all honesty, I'm not sure, I rarely know what my own emotions are and what my reasons for a lot of stuff is.

But another reason is simply because I want lots of stuff! I want to live in Monaco, I want a Maybach, I want to be able to buy anything without worrying about the cost.

I'm only 15 but already starting a software business. I don't expect it to make millions but it'll make more than the avarage 15 year old gets if all goes to plan, and it might even give me enough to invest in another business on a larger scale.

BTW, if you want a book on the subject, I can think of none better than How To Get Rich by Felix Dennis.

EDIT: Another thing I like about business is that it's outside the normal system. It seems to me that most people might as well be robots, working in school for grades then usually ending up in a job they don't care about so they can pay for the house they will never be able to afford and the family they need to support. The path I'm choosing will put my outside of this system.

All I can say is that to all the people who have posted here, I can say that you should do a career that you enjoy very much and have fun with. Having a job is something you are supposed to do with a passion first and money later. Hey money is nice, but the truth is, only 6% of Americans make at least $100,000 dollars a year. Do something you can enjoy, if you want to be a teacher, go for it! If you want to go to Medical School for the passion, go for it also! You can do anything just as long as you set your mind to it, don't let anything get in your way. This is all I can say.

I'm not too bothered about money, never have been. Having said that I know I'll need plenty of it if I ever want to fore fill the dream I've had since I was about 5.
