I've been working at McDonald's for the past 6 months and what I hate about it is:

1. I'm not being prejudiced or anything, but some of the employees there are hispanic (who don't speak English very well) and I'm not a fleuent Spanish speaker.

2. I hate it when random people come up to me and ask for directions to I-don't know-where.

3. I fear that some customers and employees talk about me behind my back because of my autistic tendencies.

4. I just can't relate to most of the employees in general. I got honor rolls and other awards throughout my school years, I'm going to be a college student soon, and I got stuck with a bunch of overmateralistic and ghetto-ish teenagers and 20-somethings.

However, I've been looking for some other jobs (mostly ones I like to do).

This is coming from a life coach... Yes, I do think you should find another job.

Try to find something with less social interaction. You can do better than fast food, so go for it. If you need the money, then, of course, stay at McD's while you're searching.

Yes, I think you should change jobs. That job sounds like a social nightmare. I stocked shelves as a teenager and found it to be mostly solitary except for breaks. The physical movement of the job kept me in great physical shape too.

DO NOT quit before you get hired somewhere else. Not only does it look bad to prospective employers but with the economy the way it is you might not be able to find another job very easily.

I agree. Don't quit before you have your next job lined up. A friend of mine did that over two years ago and is still looking for a job.

I didn't have to read beyond "I work at McDonalds" before I agreed that you should look for another job. I've never worked in food service but I suspect it's a terrible environment for an Aspie.

The jobs I did when I was your age were:

Stocking shelves and sorting inventory at a used book shop (Mostly working alone)
Grounds keeper (I often worked alone, picking up trash or weeding)
Back stage crew work (always with other people, but I got on well with them.)
Projectionist at a movie theatre (Required training and skill, but very solitary)

You don't necessarily need to have a job that challenges your mind so long as it leaves you with the mental energy to think about things you actually enjoy. But being forced to work with the chaotic unpredictability that comes in a job like food service can be so draining that you don't have the energy to do things you enjoy or attend to studies.

You should find another job, but don't quit, until you're sure that you have another job, lined up.

I'm doing a similar thing, as I'm only working 6 hours at another fast food place, and it's a good week if I work that, as some weeks, I only work 3 hours. I can't get any more hours at my job because it's slow at times, so the only way I see myself working more than 6 hours a week is to apply for other jobs. I'm not going to quit until I have a new job, as it looks better for potential employers. Also, my state has one of the highest rate of unemployment in the country, so if I were to quit before having another job lined up, it would take longer to find another job. It's one thing that's bad about having an actor as governor, except he's a better actor than a politician.
