I'm working in an on campus lab this year and I love it!
I work for one of my soon-to-be professors - he teaches a class I'll be taking next year - and the people I work with are very fun.
It's a good place: everyone in the lab happens to watch futurama and the person that I mostly work alongside also watches Dr. Who. Everyone is a serious worker though - So I really like it so far. I'm learning a ton of physical and biochemistry concepts that I otherwise would not be seeing yet as well as learning some extra O. chem and cell biology things too. So far, it's been a very informative and it's also quite enjoyable. (:
Also, its kinda odd because the average age of all us folks that work in there, including the professor, we figured out, is just under 25. haha

Anyway, just wanted to share some good news for a change. (:

P.S. I'm micropipetting like a mo' fo' now too.

Anyone else have a good (or not so good) experience working in a lab as an undergrad (or gradstudent)? What did you like/dislike?

worked/taught/supervised in two university engineering labs. not all white coat testing....some of work involved steel and concrete. lot of fun and very interesting. developed some new test methods and ways to use new materials. beats working/teaching in classroom setting.

don't blow anything up or create any new viruses.

Good one. Sounds like a pretty cool place to work, nice to find these places.

I've spent the best part of my career in chemistry labs all over the place. Certainly does have its moments :) I've since moved on, still in the same kind of field, but its more varied, outdoors, and hands on, Suits me much better, and the money is so much better in the Oil game, bonus :)

Great news! The professor that heads the lab said that they'd all love to have me for the rest of my undergrad years, if I want to stay with them.
The lab work is still fun - and informative - so I'm just downright psyched.
I also start getting paid next semester! :D
And later, my senior year, I might get to work on an honors thesis/departmental distinction program thing where I do some independent research and a write up. The professor also said that by graduation I should have my name on one or two publications. How awesome is that? :D
He's also recommending me for two prestigious scholarships soon. They're a long shot though, I think, but it can't hurt to try.
Anyway, just an update.
Life is very busy, but quite good as well. I hope this all works out.
So excited! (:
