Terrible drama at work

So I came into work today with a big surprise...

My boss got fired.
Somebody stole a bunch of money from the safe either the night before or in the morning and right when the corporate folks were visiting that morning. I wasn't there but police got involved and since they couldn't determine who had stolen it they axed my manager.

It was big shock to everyone at the store. Nobody really thinks the store manager did it though and i don't think so either. Realistically I can't say with 100% certainly, but he wasn't the kind of guy who do something this stupid as he had been there for 6 years and one of the most responsible people around.
I hate to get into gossiping, but other employees as well as myself think someone on the inside had to have had a part in this. I know the closing staff from the night before has already been scrutinized but for someone to get to the cash safe, they would have to been familiar with the store operations and have a way past the security system.
I hate to speculate even further, but the timing seems rather uncanny just as corporate folks are visiting. Usually we all make extra effort to keep the store tip top when we know they are coming and something like this happens... just seems a bit coincidental.

This truly sucks big time for my store as we're quickly moving towards Black Friday and we won't have a familiarized store manager when the time comes.
Sure, corporate is sending in a new manager... and that kind of worries a bit. A new guy, especially after this, is likely to scrutinize and change many things about the store and I hate changes.

All this just as I'm leaving for vacation... Things are going to hell when I get back.

The reasoning may have been that even if the manager didn't steal the money, he ultimately was responsible to access to the safe.
