The small town, the retail workplace, and HFA.
Did anyone else on here ever experience the hell that is called retail work? The thing that sucks about my case is i live in a small town where the only jobs available for someone in my experiene level are retail! There is nothing i despise more than working with loud noises, high demand, and pushy, rude PEOPLE!
So anyways, being on unemployment atm and between filings of SSDI, I have to find a job in that field anyways, or risk losing what little money i do get now. I was wondering if there is a specific position in the retail field that i should shoot for, and what i should avoid alltogether. The only things i know to shoot for is janitorial work, since i rather enjoyed that at my last job.

I'd say maybe warehouse work or shelf filler.
Here call centre work is infinitely more common an area of work, but as I can't use a telephone I'm restricted to retail work - that is unless I can magically find some other form of work or win the lotto to afford to get degrees - so I'll be going for more warehouse or shelf filler myself. I worked in a supermarket when I was in college, on the tills - horrible - but I also did some admin, supervisor, shelf-filling, warehouse, fireworks/seasonal desks, and customer service desk...never go for customer service desk type roles
Warehouse can be good for AS/ASD types because you can work more on your own, and it's back-office sort of work so no dealing with customers - some warehouse work may need something like a folk lift truck licence, but even if you do go for jobs that require something like this it's really easy to get and some employers will train you in this rather than expecting you to have it straight off. Shelf filler is preferable for me, it appeals to the OCD in me and although you do get some customers asking for help it's all together less customer-focused particularly if you can get nigh shifts.
