I'm just out of college, and I'm working with a recruiting firm that specializes in people who speak Japanese (a skill I'm quite proud of). They've been interviewing me for a position with the Japanese government. However, I'm a little concerned because I haven't mentioned to the recruiting firm that I have a learning disability (ADHD). The Japanese government and Japanese society in general tend to be very... touchy about those sorts of things, but I'm certain that I'd have to disclose it were I to get the position. Can anyone give me some info about what sorts of protections there are for people with learning & mental disabilities under Japanese law?

I'm not an expert on Japan. I do know that there has been a slow shift on mentalities of how disabilities are viewed, but I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to say you have a learning disability, or any other kind of disability.

I would say that you are a loyal and dedicated worker and can reach a high level of performance as long as you are provided with the right work environment, and state what accommodation you would need.

Many would say Asperger's is not a learning disability. It is an autistic spectrum disorder, or at the broader level a developmental disability. It does not affect learning as such.

Yeah, I'm not going to mention it during the interview, but I'm worried that since it's a gov't position, I'll be forced to disclose it. Can they discriminate against me on that basis?
