Tired of Trucking
Just thought I'd toss this on here and see if anyone else has had experience with Transportation jobs.
Now I suppose it can be said people with Aspergers may feel an affinity toward Ships, or Trains, or perhaps even big Trucks as part of America's vast transportation network. I will concede that I really did enjoy touring a lot of America in a big 18 wheeler. I live in Michigan but I've been between Texas, Maine, and Florida. I was rather partial to drives along the Ohio River, Kanawha River, or parts of upper Pennsylvania.
However Trucking keeps piling on many more frustrations and I just have to get out. My last company ran me really hard and I started hitting the Monster Energy drinks which I think can be really unhealthy and have a mean post-caffeine/sugar crash. Also the logbook regulations and lack of parking is ridiculous.
So in the mean time I basically quit and I've been trying to acquire new skills while job hunting. I took a workshop course in MIG Welding and kind of enjoyed it. I've also been studying the German language from an online course. Partly for second language skill and partly for heritage interest as I'm half German myself.
For now I'm mostly going after entry level Welding but I might consider other transportation based jobs. So far I've put an application in for Kirby Inland Marine River transport. Ships and transportation still interest me and I don't have to worry about parking.

Container ships, since you asked. I imagine you would have to join the merchant marines to get a job on one though.
You could also be a logistic coordinator I suppose and work for some transportation company on some management end if you don't care to travel anymore.

He might be able to offer specific advice. (I believe he lives and works in Canada, but thanks to NAFTA, it is fairly easy for U.S. citizens to live and work in Canada, and vice versa.)
