I had a little victory yesterday at work and I'm so happy I have to post what happened.

I'm a self employed carpenter but have been doing work for the same company for 3 of the last 4 years. The Site Agent at the site I'm working on is probably one of the most intelligent people I've ever met at work. When I first met him 4 years ago he had a bit of a reputation of being short tempered and aggressive (he even shot someone with a nail gun but got away with it) but I found him okay and any materials I needed were always there when I wanted so he was good at his job. I could even joke and take the p*ss out of him and he'd be okay with that. Over the years he started to dislike me more and more for some unknown reason and would give me all the menial work but friends and family got all the clean/easy work. A year ago I thought maybe it was because of my aspergers attitude he had taken a dislike to me so I told him about my aspergers and how I prefered to work alone and prefered to be give plans and working out the sizes for myself rather than being told the sizes and then blamed if they were wrong. Thinks got worse and he has never once mentioned aspergers since I told him about me.
Anyway 1 month ago I'm back on one of his jobs and doing all the menial work again while the other 5 carpenters are doing roofing/flooring etc. Then a lot of timber arrives and he has no choice other than having me and an apprentice do some carpentry. So we start fitting staircases, stud walls etc. and are finishing one house every 3 days. We finish 3 houses and then 3 carpenters who are friends and family to the Site Agent turn up and start doing the remaining 5 houses while we are told to go and sweep the floors. I'm easily the best carpenter in the company but they are better paid than me and it takes 3 of them 4 1/2 days to finish a house compared to 3 for me and the apprentice.
On this same site another 7 houses have just became available to be worked on and they were offered to the 3 friends and family of the Site Agent at a price. They refused because the price wasn't enough and the S/A then said me and the apprentice would have to do them at that price (thinking that we would make a loss) because he had no other work for me to do.
Me and Jack (the apprentice) started fitting stairs which are a two man job but then the S/A takes Jack away for 90 minutes to do another job leaving me struggling to fit the stairs. I think he realised that I might be able to make money so he wanted to f*ck me up. He says as Jack is an apprentice he's his b***h to do what he wants with when he wants. I sent a text to the boss of the company asking if Jack was to be with me all the time or if the S/A could take him away anytime he wanted. This is the text he sent back to me and he sent a similar one to the Site Agent.
HE MUST STAY WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES, ANY QUERIES ANDY (the name of the site agent) TO SPEAK TO ME. APPRENTICES ARE TO LEARN NOT BE USED TO SUIT.
So now the site agent has realy got it in for me, he's even put the timber we need on hold yesterday to slow us down. He even went around yesterday and told everyone who would listen that I'd put a staircase in wrong by not allowing enough headroom above it. He showed me the problem and said I had to put it right. I said it was right when I did it so someone else has done something wrong. The headroom needs to be 2000mm and I knew when I did it there was 2010mm clearance. He held a tape measure up to prove it was too small and even kept the tape off the ground to make it look smaller than it was. I stripped the ceiling and found the plasterers had for some reason put too many layers of plasterboard on. I didn't get an apology from him and I took photographs for evidence because I know in the future once everything is covered up he'll try to blame me again.

I just thought I'd get that off my chest because it's not often I have a little victory at work.

sounds like a mild psychopath.

All of that "site (workplace) politics" sounds very familiar to me, and I commend your ability to deal with it as well as you have! In the past, I have walked off over far lesser "politics" at work.

site manager sounds like a complete dick, but the carpentry itself sounds like a lot of fun
