Okay just the short background: because of the Recession I went to trucking school and got my CDL. I drove tractor trailer for almost 3 years but I'm sick of the weigh stations, lack of parking, the Logbook, the truck stop dwellers(crackheads and hookers), and in general The Department of Transportation government regulations.

So I try to find local work here in Michigan and it seems like it's just not going to happen.

So today the strange thing happens where I get 2 jobs leads on the phone. The one that relates to this is Expedite Cargo Van. Basically when there is a shortage or something breaks a Van can be hired to Expedite materials or parts. By just driving a van I don't have to deal with the pain in the ass parking of 18wheelers, the stupid Logbook, or be stuck at truck stops.

Now as for the Occupational Solitude, I've been living with my parents for a while and this Cargo Van seems to actually be bothering my Mom. She's disappointed because I "Don't have a life". I think she has a nagging need for me to hook up and give her some grand kids or something. She's trying to encourage me to take the other job offer which is only with a Temp Agency.

Fortunately my Dad actually seems supportive. I think I take after my dad more actually. Himself and his dad had reputations as being rather quiet guys.

But really there are 2 points to this post. 1 is I'm pondering my mom's reaction as if I'm missing out of life. I'd say I get to see more of the country then most Americans. That is quite an experience. Maybe it's not a strong path to the wedding chapel and kids but geez don't we already have enough people in this world? Besides my more NT brother had a kid so be content.

Also I'm tossing this out as a possible career path for anyone who thinks they can drive a helluva lot. If I actually take this job I'll share some feedback on it. It does require being independent and yes to save money the van has a bed behind the seats. But if you can handle the responsibility it may offer a means to an immense amount of independence. You can spend all the time behind the wheel making money and listening to your music, XM Sirious Radio, or books on tape. I plan to further study my German.

It sounds like your idea of a "life" and your mom's are different right now. I have an uncle who didn't get married until he was 50, and know lots of people who didn't have kids until they were in there 40's.

It sounds like a good job. I know a guy who worked for a powerline construction company delivering equipment. It sounds similar. He would run tools, equipment, or deliver trucks over a 3 state area. Lots of driving, lots of overtime.

Well my job search has developed even further. I'm now focusing on a lead for hauling cars. It should be a medium sized Freightliner truck pulling a ramp style trailer with 3 cars.

Again just tossing this out as an idea for people who might want a job with tons of private time. Hoping this is a nice improvement over the Semi Trucks.
