It would have to be something entry level/volunteer, as I really don't have enough experience for my age.
I'm not FOND of socialization, but I can do it when needed. I can "appear" normal, even though it's quite taxing. Just have some form of routinue, tell me what to do (fold clothes, shelf books). The problem I'll have is speed. I can do a great job, but I can't do it as fast as I can with people yelling and noise everywhere and OMG WHAT THE F*** IS GOING ON! So yeah, that's like half (if not more) of the entry level jobs gone. I also did a cash thing with one volunteer gig, and I didn't enjoy it. There was no taxes, but since I had to multitask by getting paid, get food prepared, and other odd tasks, it was stressful. VERY stressful. I think the only place I could do it is at Chapters, since even on holiday/boxing day it's not super fast. I guess people aren't in a rush to buy books?
I'm thinking that either something with Chapters, a clothing store (though I'll have to practice folding clothes, I swear they hate me), or a pet store. Even if it was volunteer, I just need experience, I already get disability.

I think that once you start looking, you'll find many worthwhile causes to be a part of. Some of my life's most satisfying moments were with volunteer organizations.

Have A Great Day!

It would be nice to try 20 different jobs to find out how you do in each of them. Learn as much as possible, cause work environments can be hard to predict depending on culture.

The bookshop sounds best. Data entry/clerical? Cleaning jobs? Collecting glasses in a pub? Staking shelves? Checkout? Factory work? Assisting in a library or museum? If you are volunteering cant you try as many as possible? Lots for a CV/ foot in the door?

Would you be able to just walk into a company/shop and say got anything for me to do?

If you are in Ottawa and you like animals (work in pet store), why not go to the Agricultural Museum and ask if there is anything you can do there to help as a volunteer?

Their animals will need care, and its such a lovely place. I love Ontario.

Well I can tell you any sort of fast food or customer service job you definently won't enjoy. I did it for about 1 1/2 years.. it's torture for an aspie. Socializing the entire shift, pretending to be happy.. it's too much to handle.

As far as just volunteer work.. alot of hospitals offer good volunteer work, gift shops and whatnot. I'm not sure how hard it is to get into them these days.. a clothing store wouldn't be so bad, except around christmas. Maybe a bookstore. The ones to watch out for is the non-stop talking/customer interaction jobs like fast food.

Hospitals wouldn't work. I had to go to them for years for therapy, and something about the white everywhere, the squeaking/clicking noises and the cleaning products DRIVE ME CRAZY. Yes, in a gift shop, it would be easier, but I just don't want to go back. Plus I think the only one with a gift shop is CHEO, and I was admitted there because of a suicide attempt years ago. Yeah, I don't really want to go back :(
There are some clothing stores that are worse then others. Like Reitmans, Motherhood Maternity, etc. MUCH less busy there (I went to both about a week before Christmas), just the perfect amount of customers. Oh, imagine how much clothing I could get at Reitmans (my favourite store!) if I worked there *drools* NEVER working on Boxing Day anywhere but Chapters though, I think it's the only store in existence that doesn't get too busy then!

Luckily it's just one day out of the year though.. clothing stores could be a good pick for you, 'specially if it's a big hobby for you. They don't get packed with customers, you know alot about it already, you would get paid.. never hurts to apply to a couple of stores. Not too familiar with your situation, I know you don't really want to overload yourself seeing high school itself is an annoyance, you could always wait until the summer too.

Yeah, I would never consider a hospital. I would save those kind of jobs for somebody leaning towards a hospital/science career anyway, which isn't me. At all. *shudders at the thought of science class*
I'm looking for a job after I finish my last credit, I plan on taking a year off for some experience. I don't care about the money, just need to get SOMETHING in my resume. My co-op definitely will help, but still, it would have been awesome if I could have worked all through high school. It just wasn't possible. And now at 19, people will think I'll have more experience since I "should" be in Uni or working full time. Instead of being stuck in high school. Bah.
