The stats I've seen say that Aspies have about 85% un/under-employment. I've been wondering what separates us from the successful 15%. I'm guessing that working at something that they can fully immerse themselves in (hence the usual advice of working with a special interest), is key. But many people succeed through pure discipline and determination.

If you couldn't study or train for a preferred career because the trades or courses weren't available to you (location, finances, etc), would you then choose:
(A) Forget it and just be one of the 85%
or
(B) Succeed by pure force of will applied to study/training in something that doesn't interest you too much, so long as you are one of the 15%?

(C) Make up my own discipline although I am currently doing (A) though not for lack of trying (B).

Definitely (A). I've never been interested enough in what most people consider success to do anything I don't enjoy for any real length of time.

I wish I could accept life as it is, but I'm always looking. I expect I'll die dissatisfied.

Oddly enough I had a career for 10 years until I was fired that qualified as a B job. It was sitting in a TV control room for a local station on the night shift playing the most god awful infomercials and talkshows and televangelists. What did me in was Maury Povich and Jack Van Impe.

Given a choice to do that again I'd have to say I'd rather work in a regular labor job even if it was scrubbing toilets or working in a factory.
