Where you live, how it affects your job search...

I live in a fairly small city. <29,000 pop. A few cities near by, but not convenient or close enough to find a job in. Does anyone else live in a small/isolated area? Has it made it harder to find the right job?

I've thought about moving to a bigger city, particularly St. Paul/Minnesota because there are so many few jobs that can accommodate me. Has anyone here successfully done something like that? Success meaning adapting to the new city, and finding a job that has lasted for a more than a few years, while gaining more independence, etc.

To sum it up, how does the city/town you live in affect your career (or academic) goals?

I live in a small town, getting a job is difficult for me. I find that most jobs are located in the city and the west where all the industrial factories are. I live in a desirable place (I live near the bush, lowest crime in that area, quiet), whereas city is not desirable (noisy, crowded) but got plenty of jobs. Lucky for me, Sydney is in demand for graphic designers and the design industry is becoming stronger, after design degree is finished I should land a job.
