I was given a job offer at the interview, with a written contract.

Three days before I was scheduled to start, they changed their hours and said that, due to my being seventeen, they were no longer able to hire me. I turned down other offers prior to this notice.

I know that this is perfectly legal, but still, do not apply for something with this little job security.

Hmm. They should have told you from the get go that you were underage. You wouldn't have wasted your time applying.
