Another thread got me thinking about job adverts and how ridiculous they are getting so I wondered if anyone wanted to have a laugh and make up a funny job advert? Here is mine

B&Q ASSISTANT
Hello people!
We need a new assistant to replace the one who ran away due to our training incompetence, the really bad layout of shop items and the stressful atmosphere full of people who did not want to come here in the first place, but just needed something.
Essential qualities: Naivety, Tolerance, Ability to work under a ridiculous amount of pressure, Savant-like behaviour for remembering where items are and being able to decide where items should go and why.
Prior experience in working in a stupidly stressful environment is useful, but otherwise just come dive in and you'll soon learn that life isn't as hunky dory as you thought it was!

Position at Remote One-person Outpost in Antarctica available:

Must be a "people person" who eschews isolation.
Networking must be the most enjoyable part of your day.
Teamwork is always the most important thing to you.
Must be "perky" without the use of prescription or controlled substances (or electroshock).
You are known as a "chatty Cathy" to your numerous friends and associates.

Interest in environmental science not required, but a plus.

I love it! I interviewed for a job where I would work absolutely alone but they seemed to press being extroverted and sociable so I never got the job. What the heck wouldn't you want someone who keeps to themselves in such a role is beyond me.

I think with job adverts like that they are taking the mickey. They surely know there is no such person and what they are asking is for a candidate to squeeze themselves into that mold. Also when it says 'self directed' I think they mean that although you will have a manager, the manager can't be bothered doing much managing and if anything goes wrong it will be your fault because you were 'self directed'.

I was interviewed recently for a role where they wanted someone with programming skills. They asked me so many questions about my personality that by the time it was over (over an hour later) it seemed as though I had just done a scene on the filem Bladerunner and was suspected of being a 'skin job'.

I went for an after-hours data entry type job recently. There was also a daytime job but I didn't know about it so I didn't apply. I got a call back saying I "wasn't the right culture fit" for the evening shift, but would I like to interview again for the day shift? (I had already interviewed twice - once with the agency and once with the company.) What is the difference between the two? The evening shift is a smaller group of staff, with less supervision. I have no idea how I gave the impression that I'd prefer the larger group with someone staring over my shoulder more often! The evening shift seemed ideal for someone like me, and still they got it wrong... *sigh*

It sound like they are having trouble finding people for the day shift and maybe were persuading you to take that instead. I hardly every believe the things employers tell me, if they tell me anything at all, when they give feedback.

Most of the jobs here reads like this
Wanted Smart, Confident, Outgoing candidate
with pleasing personality and excellent communication skills
Self starter would be most welcome, should have very good
decision making ability and social skills.

And just by reading these terms i avoid going to the interview.

It gets me, because I always think what do they want you to be "smart" about, what must you be "confident" about and where are you "outgoing" to? It is so general that it means nothing, they only interview people they think can do the job and the interview is just to see if they like you or not. If they like you then you get the job.
