my first experience with working was pretty awful. i worked in a grocery store in a pretty bad neighborhood. work conditions were disgusting, i was allergic to the food, and it was unsafe. i was threatened with bodily harm regularly and, on occasion, death because i didn't meet the standards for social ability for a few customers (those same customers would seek me out whenever they came). it was stressful to the point that i would throw up and have panic attacks before work and i would feel ill the for entirety of my shift. during that time, my family would only tell me to toughen up because, as an adult, i needed a job. i was eventually fired after nine months due to transportation issues (i did not have my license at the time and relied on my mother to take me to work. she wanted me to work and contribute but resented having to take me).
after six months of searching and being treated like crap for being unemployed, i finally got a job in July. and it was...perfect. it was in a good area, the customers were sane and really nice, my bosses and coworkers LOVED me. constantly praising my hard work. then, i got in a wreck. my car was totaled by some 17 year old girl doing 60 in a 35 mph zone. she was texting and i was stopped, with my signal light on, to make a turn. needless to say, i would out of work for a while. that lost me much needed wages. her insurance didnt give me enough for a new car, so my mother had to lend me $1000. shortly after i returned from the wreck, the owner of the store came and met me while i was on break. he wasnt happy about seeing me in the break room. he interrogated me, wanting to know why i wasnt working. i told him "i was told to go on break". so the guy hangs out in there for the duration of my break and then follows me around the store for a while before stopping me and saying "what are you doing? it looks like you're just wandering around.". bear in mind that i had an arm full of items to put back as i was doing my job (straightening the isles). so i told him that i had been told to go through every isle and find items that were out of place and then put them where they belonged. apparently he didnt like that answer because i was fired the next day. my bosses didnt even know until i came down there to ask what i had done wrong. they were expecting me to come into work that day (and the next 4 days, for that matter). so i had to contact the temp agency to find out that the manager had come in the day before and told them that i never did my work and had a poor job performance. this after meeting me ONCE while i was on my mandatory break.
now, i am unemployed again, i cant go into town and look for prospective jobs because i am not allowed to use the car until i am employed (despite the fact that it is in my name). it is really discouraging that a person can work hard only to be fired because of a lie.

My dear younger Aspie gal! For starters, you have my utmost and deepest sympathy on your employment/transportation/family plight! It sounds to be a most untenable position!
A few suggestions, if I may; do you live in a populated enough area that public transportation would be a viable option? I realize that with a possible assortment of sensory issues, a bus might not seem workable at first, but, until you can re-gain stable employment, it might be a short-term solution.
Next, when you are working again, would looking for a suitable-roommate situation be worth considering?
Finally, I would like to propose checking into ACA - it'll help you deal with your parents idiocy...
Peace & good luck to you!

One of the reasons I avoid temp agencies is they place you in jobs where they can fire you for wearing mismatched socks or having fingernails .05 inches longer than their limit or speaking .02 decibels louder than their favourite employees. You're always on edge as a temp, and when you get fired, you don't have a clue why. "The company called and said not to send you back. No, they didn't say why." As simple as that. All jobs sucks. I don't know if they all bring you pain, misery & suffering like nursing, but torture is torture. Man, the things we must do just to make money to pay the f*cking rent!

yes, it should have. but it has been nearly a month now and we have yet to see it. supposedly they were supposed to send another a check. not that it REALLY matters for me. because i have been informed that even after that, i cant use my car despite that she will have her money back. i am not allowed to touch it at all until i procure another job.

She has the key hidden and justifies it because she had to contribute money with the insurance money. Yes, most days.

Where I work we stopped using temps because almost all of them refused to follow even basic rules (no smoking on company property, drinking alcohol while on lunch, disobeying safety rules) and others used to try and boss me around on their first day and one had an mind blowing arrogant attitude on his very first hour on the job! We would keep anyone if they even made an attempt to try and get along but that worked out to be only 2 out of 25 or so. One eventually got another full time job and the other decided to go back to school: both would have been for sure hires.
On the other hand, when I worked in retail we used to hire temps when the bigwigs were coming or during the busiest times. To say they were treated like modern day slaves would be an understatement. They were the nicest, hardest working people I have ever seen and got treated like $#@% and thrown away and they made minimum wage! Quite a contrast between the two employers to say the least!
