Is anyone else pretty bad at this? I find it very difficult to focus without some of sort structure. At present, I get some work done, but I end up wasting a lot of time online.

I've generally always been like this, and I don't really know how to fix it. Any ideas on solutions? I've a diary, I put notes on my wall...but I get so locked into the computer screen that half the time the time I don't check my notes or the wall. On the positive side, I'm generally good at remembering dates and deadlines in my head (writing them down as backup) and get stuff done on time.

I've been through college 3 times, successfully, so I'm OK once I get on track. But college imposes on a structure on you, and therefore, you have to force yourself to focus. Now I'm working from home and I'm not as efficient as I need to be. I've tried a paper timetable, but that doesn't really work, and I've not had much success with online/email/text reminders, either.

Any thoughts? I don't like to go on about the diagnosis too much, but I feel this is a definite trait or weak point I have and things can get pretty blahy/stressy with some of this. Not sleeping too well at present.

I have similar problems. If your computer is a laptop you could try to move it to another point you might focus better there. I find for some reason I focus better in my garage but I should study in there more often.

I am good at remembers date and deadlines if I memorize them but fail if I write them down as I forget to check. Also what kind of work from home are you doing. Do you need internet to do it? If not try disconnecting and then reconnecting later if you think you will get too distracted Or do you need to be in constant contact?

I can't really go into more detail without knowing what you do.

Hey,

Thanks for answering.

I need the internet, yeah. Have to have my work email open pretty much constantly, work website, social media (work based), etc. I have to do a lot of checking, gathering of info, administration and so on. I'd unplug, but it's not an option, and wouldn't work since I live at home where others need the web. Can disable it on my computer, of course, but that's a 2 second click and it's back in a flash. It did help, though, to unplug the web when I was a student, but that was only doable when my parents were away, so I know how distractible I am when online.

How much sleep are you getting. I find I focus more and get a lot more work done if I get enough sleep and tend to shirk more when I don't get enogh sleep.

Yeah, I'm similar, I think. It's more being awake until 2 or 3am that's the problem. I want to start work at 8 or 9am, ideally, but invariably it's 10 at present. Largely my own fault.

When Im studying, I have lots of stuff scattered all over the place cause of random thoughts that go into my ahead. I usually don't bother during semester cause it's too time consuming, plus then I get worried that I've lost where everything is.

I'll do a cleanup whenever I have plenty of free time on my hands

Im good at remembering, so thats how I get about doing my day to day tasks.

If you have Outlook, your Calendar and Tasks list are your friends. They will give you popup reminders when you have to do things. and they will do it before the time you have to be there. this helps you not miss meetings and deadlines.

I also have my email very ruled out. This allows me to handle my work email in an efficient manner.
