I only ever have 1 if I am on my death bed. I was in a serious motor vehicle accident a few days ago and still turn up to work. People think I am crazy.

When do you pull a sick day?

I've had to call in sick (well, I checked first) when I had D&V. The rules are normally 48 hours free before returning. I was just under that; so had to stay home. :(

If I can walk and I'm not throwing up, I can go to work.

Around here sick days are used when you are just not feeling well, which is pretty common. I aim for once every quarter.

I knew people who called in routinely every other week. Why they were never fired is a mystery to me. Poor accountability, I guess. I've called in when I was in the hospital with a stroke. I've called in when the gout flare ups in my legs prevented me from walking.

We had this young nurse with set pattern of calling in sick monday after drinking sunday night. Probably still works at the clinic. I've made the mistake of drinking liqor and thinking I'd be ready to work the next day, I figured it out by the 3rd or 4th time though.

I rarely call in sick, if I do I'm usually actually sick.

I do sometimes get headaches from the changing weather and have to go home.

I've got about 30 days of sick leave saved up, hopefully I will never need it.

When I am infected with something, have a bad headache or a panic attack. I'm a wimp and I like to be in tip-top condition before I work.

i call sick days only if i'm experiencing a very heavy meltdown, although i do sometimes stay home sick (lucky i dont have to be there, so i can stay away).
this is becouse i dont call myself sick unless i'm too sick to even pick up the phone, making calling in quite difficult.
my employer knows this though, so he knows to call for help if work is swamped and i'm not in the minute my shift starts (i'm always early, even if there's traffic, else i'd call)

I am rarely physically too sick to work (I can only remember one such time in the last several years, which was for one day).

I do definitely take my sick days though when I am mentally wrecked for whatever reason. It usually has nothing to do with work, my job is not all that stressful, but I have times occasionally when I just burn out hard on life and need a day to re-orient myself.

As far as I'm concerned it's stupid to not take advantage of "sick time", we get one day a month and if we don't use them we lose them at the end of the year. I am invested somewhat in my job and if I'm truly needed I'll be there 24/7, but if it is slow and I will not miss anything by not being there for a day I don't hesitate to duck out if I feel like crap.

It is what it is.

When I am throwing up, have a very bad headache, have a fever, when my kid is sick and no one else can watch him, when my whole family is sick and I don't want him getting sick again, when I am in the hospital. When I have a broken arm or leg.

I rarely call in sick and had to this week because my whole family was sick and my son had just gotten over being sick and so did I. So I didn't want him to get sick again so I called in sick so I can stay home with him while everyone else rests.

I wish people would stay home when they're sick... I'm weak to certain diseases, so they come in and sneeze all over everything and I get more sick than they were (along with half the office!) Thanks a lot for your "work ethic".

I'm a janitor so please tell me how to work with one working leg and one working arm? When I even worked as a house person and broke my arm joint, my boss wouldn't even let me work until I was released back to work by the doctor. I couldn't even do my job with one arm and she couldn't give me light duty because the injury happened off work. So get off your high horse or do you like the view from up there?
