Struggling to find work in NYC, need help/advice

Hi there, I'm a twenty-three year old graduate from Bennington College, with a degree in video and media studies, and I have high-functioning autism. I am currently searching for jobs within the New York City area, and have been at it for the past couple of months, but I have been struggling a great deal. I would love to work in either entertainment or with special needs children. I get very nervous walking into random places and handing in my resume; it feels extremely unnatural to me, and I feel I come off as someone who shouldn't be hired. Therefore, I operate mostly through online applications, phone discussions, and assistance from friends and previous employers.

I do not believe my resume or cover letters are the issue, per se; I edit them both regularly and have others look them over. The whole process has been very difficult for me, so I am looking for advice here. Better yet, if you know of any positions around the area, let me know haha! Otherwise, I would just love to talk about it with people and see who has had similar experiences.

Hi, I think your current method of online applications, phone calls, and previous employers is pretty good. And the magic question seems to be:

'I'm already sent HR a copy of my resume. May I send you a copy also?'
