I am getting rejected from job interviews left and right, and now I am feeling so horrible because I am getting rejected from a profession I want.... waitress. The only reason I think I am being rejected is based on my appearance, and not that I am ugly (I know that for a fact), but because I look too young. The last interview the guy ask if I was even 18 (I'm 21), and I think he just thought I was incompetent for the job.

I hate to turn to stripping, but I think I am going to have too to pay for college. I really need the money. I am not going to ask my family for help, or donate my blood.

Anyone been through what I been through? It just totally sucks to be this poor.

Yeah, that totally bites. I applied to every place in my city (Pop. ~28,500) before being hired as a line cook for an extremely busy, usually under-staffed pizza joint on the commercial strip. That obviously doesn't pay enough, so I also click on Paid-to-Click (PTC) ads to earn a few cents each day. It's mindless work that can be done with one daily login to capture all your pennies for that period without ever paying anything yourself.

After earning at least $10 (in two months or so), then you can order cash-out check or PayPal payment less the $3 processing fee (deducted from the amount to be sent to you, never paid up-front). Other than saying vulgar things for a dollar per utterance for some acquaintances way back when (they knew I didn't like to swear), this is the easiest money I've earned! :D

I, Jeff, am already maxed out on referrals, so here's my friend Joe's referral link:

I am trying not care, but when I know it's "my assume age" is the reason, it just gets to me. I love customer service, since I have 3 years of experience. I will memorize the menu, do overtime. I'm perfect for the job. I even watch youtube videos, read books about this field, and I done everything possible to look professional.

I know right off the bat the hiring manager just didn't like the way I look, and the person who set me up with the interview should had done the interview instead of him. It's their loss in the long run, since if they hire anyone one else, they'll probably end up getting someone who isn't as competent as I am.

Complaining on a forum isn't going to help me, so I am just going to focus on college, and get a career for myself that I can be proud about. No one can take my education away from me at least.

It's probably a good thing in the long run actually since this barrier is really putting me in a situation where I am truly value education more than ever.

That's funny you mention that because I was just talking last night about the possibility of an aspie stripper.

I'm curious by the fact that they are rejecting you because of assumed age, which btw, is illegal.

How are you presenting yourself on an interview? There are ways to dress and makeup to look older. I would keep looking, I just find it really weird they won't hire a good looking girl who looks young. That's like the dream for a lot of places.

Need to know more about your apperience that day and what kind of place you applied.

You could always waitress in a strip club first ;)

There's no way I could prove if he rejected me because of my assume age, so that doesn't matter (but I told him my age). Autistic stripper, very possible, but it's going to take a lot of confidence... and if I wasn't told I was beautiful almost every time I see my family I wouldn't even have confidence. I know it's a fact even though I don't see it, since I'm a hermit practically. I take rejection well too (it wasn't like this all the time), but I put a ton of work (I cleared my acne skin, I lost 60 lbs, I wear latisse to grow my eyelashes long, color contacts). I don't wear make up though, since I believe natural beauty is more professional....

Interviews are really hit and miss, since you could be the most excellent candidate but they will want someone else. The staff look dowdy, older *late 20s-30s*, and I think they want someone who has that formal restaurant look. I'm not going to say racial profiling either, but I look very Arabic too (I'm Latina though)... black hair, very pale skin, strong nose, but I like that I look Arabic lol... still though.

Well the person who called me gave me the chance for the interview, but she is not the hiring manager. I worn dark pants, and a white/black blouse. It look really nice, in my opinion, but it was also dark. I assume I had enough experience, since I work at a Coney Restaurant, but in the interview the guy ask if I ever serve wine/beer before. I have not, but it's common sense that I wouldn't have either since Coney's are known for not serving beer. Maybe the whole interview was set for failure because the receptionist shouldn't had called me to begin with....

They are still looking for applicants, so I know they haven't found what they are looking for. The guy told me I'll hear a call by next week Monday (3 days ago) because head manager was out, and the interview was 10 days ago. He should had told me I am not what they are looking for that day... so I didn't have to wait so long, and I found out on my own.... if I didn't call I would still be waiting.

I just sent a thank you letter, and I'm going to move on with my life.

It's just irritating lol.

Eh... Iv't had a number of excuses of why I haven't gained employment, the way I look and my age, (basically I don't look to mascline, The way that I talf, the posture, perceived lacking confidence and shyness, lack of experience, lack of eye-contact, over-qualified, under-qualified, stuttering, forgetfulness, being too honest and even for the place reputation that I live. Iv'e had this for nearly 10 years, so gaining a job through interview is not going to happen :? I look for simply work behind the scenes in an office, prefferably that fits with my degree.

That's just unfair. I don't know why employers have to make this such a hard thing just to get an "entry" wage job. I'm assuming you're not applying for Vice president or anything like that lol. Who cares about not looking your age, who cares about not looking masculine (understandably if it's construction, but if it's a neutral job... then wth), who cares about personal attributes that do not correlate with the job performance.... within reason. I understand why speaking well, direct eye contact, and things like that play a role.

forgetfulness, okay that's a good reason why not to get a job.

Interviews are like dating. If they don't like you, then you won't get the job. Sad, but I am convince... I think most honest people should give a fair proper "probation" period to prove their worthiness.

Good luck.

I was thinking about your post and wanted to suggest you try Starbucks(or any other coffee establishment). My sister worked her way through college working at Starbucks. It may be right up your alley since you like customer service. Also around here they have what they call "Bikini Barista". I've never been to one but, I've been told that girls dress up in skimpy swimwear and sell coffee. It doesn't sound safe to me to handle steaming hot beverages with lots of exposed bare skin but, it might be better then stripping

Do you qualify for any scholarships? Are you able to take out any student loans? NOTE: I DO NOT recommend taking out many loans unless you are going into a field that you know will have a job for you when you get out, and that you know will pay well enough for you to be able to afford the payments.

You don't want to do stripping, that would be doing a disservice to yourself and you deserve better than that. What kind of restaurants are you applying to, and how are you dressing when you go? For most restaurant jobs you're going to want to dress business casual (business formal for fancier restaurants probably), make sure that you are neatly groomed and such, and ensure that you have no visible tattoos or jewelry.

Not yet. I am in the process of pulling out a student loan, and I decided I am going to donate at the blood plasma even though I didn't want the scars. If I don't donate plasma, then I might risk dropping out of classes which will make this whole process longer.

I am going to continue applying to jobs, but I lost all hope regardless. I am applying everywhere that is hiring though even janitor positions.

Before online apps became the norm, Starbucks was very big on how well you interact socially when requesting a job application. You now have a better chance at an interview due to the online application process, but again Starbucks is looking for people who act neurotypical. Being the "quirky" Aspie type will turn off most hiring managers. Be boring and drop a line or two about the latest televised sports results to increase your chances of being hired.

Pizza Hut hires all sorts of misfits but is worse to work for than General Dollar because of the constantly high volume of counter orders, table service, and phoned-in orders.
