I was on the swim club at this pool for over 4yrs. I've always been interested in swimming so I thought it'd be good. The problem is it's a social job. I didn't think of that somehow. I figured in-service training and sitting on a lifeguard stand. It ain't nearly that simple though. I gotta talk to patrons, be prepared to save a life and be socially accepted by the other lifeguards. The latter being the hardest. I don't think I've made the best impression, not particularly bad though.
Happy I got a job that doesn't suck though :D

My first in-service training was last tuesday. I asked my boss when I'd come in to shadow, prerequisite to actually lifeguarding, he said he'd contact me "sometime this week." Well, he didn't do that. I don't want to bother him; he's a busy man. Should I just wait it out and he'll contact me when he wants to? Or, should I risk it and talk to the guy? -Steve

If it's been a week, contact him.

I once trained as a lifeguard, it was cool. But I never had a job doing it.

I would call him just to find out what is happening. I hope you can start work and enjoy your job. Saving a life would be a good thing to do but I would say most of the time you will be watching the swimmers and makings sure everything is safe.
