So first time posting in here..so here goes nothing. I am in my mid 20's, have a finance degree and also have Aspergers (relatively high-functioning). The last few years I have spent in high level fundraising, as a consultant and development director. I know you must all be thinking, "how did he get by in fundraising with Aspergers?" Honestly, it is a shock to me too. As a consultant, it was a little easier because I was just telling people what I think and as you all may know, aspie's love to be right. As a development director however, it is a different story...constantly working with your board, dealing with people, etc. I took this job because of a move a couple months ago and am already looking for a way out..it is just too much.

My question is this -- I want to make the move over to something in finance. All I have is a finance degree..however, a lot of my experience can be spun in a good financial way (raised hundreds of millions of dollars, constantly analyzed data, managed people, etc.). Are there any recommendations for jobs that would be best for a transition/jobs that would be best for me to look at? I make decent money now, so don't want to take that much of a hit, if possible. However, my aspie needs definitely come first. Any suggestions would be very, very much appreciated. It's Saturday again and that means I will be spending the weekend looking at/for jobs so I can get manage my life a little better.

How 'bout working for a non-profit? You'll be a STAR for being able to raise that kind of money, but your salary will probably take a huge nosedive.

I'm working as a development director for a nonprofit now..salary actually went up (exec. position nonprofit salaries are not as low as you may think for a lot of them) -- but when working with a nonprofit, it means maintaining a lot of relationships and answering to a lot of people aka extremely hard for me.

Well, first-of-all, you said you just moved (?), and took the job a couple of months ago----ANY job is overwhelming for us Aspies, the first SEVERAL months; I suggest giving it a little more time.

Secondly.....

There's, frequently, jobs on there for Management-Analysis (budgets, etc.; and, management doesn't usually mean managing people; it means managing PROJECTS).

You're the perfect age to begin a career with the Feds; virtually, you can't get fired, you get all kinds of leave (so, if you have a meltdown / shutdown, for instance, you can go home, and not lose pay. Just make sure that you select *Federal employee* (you get more job announcements), AND make sure you read everything VERY carefully, and ONLY apply for jobs that say *GS*. Don't be afraid to holler, if you have a question.

I'll do what I can to help----but, it took me almost an hour to make these few posts, because of the bad functioning (almost non-existent functioning, for alot of people) on Wrong Planet.

Thank you so so so much Cat. I know the site and will look that way. I will certainly be in touch, as I really just discovered this forum and don't know of anyone in a similar circumstance as me

You're quite welcome!! I'll keep an eye on this thread, in-case you have any questions----like, abbreviations might throw ya. Also, I wouldn't apply for anything that says NTE, cuz that means Not To Exceed (in reference to duration of a job), UNLESS it says something like NTE 3 years, or more, cuz once you get IN, chances are GOOD, that you can get transferred. ONE year NTE, and you might just end-up back in the spot you are now.
