Are there any Aspies in the USMC (specifically)?

Hi there,

I'm an 18-year-old with Aspergers, and I'm curious to know (if there any Aspies currently in the USMC) if I'm able to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. I don't have money for college and I hate civilian life (military life appeals to me). I haven't been on medication, nor have I had therapy for Aspergers. In fact, I didn't even know that I had Aspergers until I was 16. Anyway, can I not say anything about it if I go to MEPS? I plan on taking the ASVAB as soon as I can. Thanks!

Paul

You have an official diagnosis so they'll see it when they go through your medical records. Autism/Asperger's is generally a disqualifying diagnosis for all branches of the armed forces but if it's mild enough they can overlook it. It's best to disclose it to a recruiter before you get too into it to be sure that they can make an exception for you.

Actually, I don't have an official diagnosis... I just have every single trait of an Aspie, minus the sensitivity. :P

In that case, you should change your settings on your profile. It's very misleading to say you have diagnosed Asperger's when you do not. There is an option for those who think they have AS but have not been diagnosed. Precision is very important in all aspects of military life so you should get used to it now.
