Disability evaluation

Even though I was terminated from the City of Montgomery in September, they allowed me to apply for disability retirement. After sitting on my application for many weeks, the city finally moved on it following the holidays. I am scheduled to see the city's disability doctor (an internist) tomorrow morning and there will be a hearing on my application Wednesday if he returns his recommendations in time for the medical retirement board meeting. Does anyone know what to expect? I got a new letter from my psychiatrist repeating my diagnoses with autism spectrum disorder and major depression plus prognostic information and other details the city had requested.

Though I couldn't live on the check, this would be a good deal for me, because my health care and some other benefits would be restored at a reasonable premium and I would still be allowed to work as long as I do not exceed my previous income.

I don't know what to expect at something like that, but just wanted to wish you good luck. I remember one of your threads in The Haven from a while back and know you've been going through a lot, so I really hope this works out for you.

I just got back from the disability doctor. He wants a second psychiatric opinion from the head of my psychiatrist's clinic plus my cognitive behavioral therapist's notes. The latter is not ridiculous, but I have to sign a release and pray she responds. My therapist believes only forensic psychologists should be involved in legal matters, so I can't get a letter from her directly.

Meanwhile I'm running out of money and my eldest brother is pressing me to pay the rest of my share of my other brother's funeral, which I can only get by liquidating more of my fast dwindling inherited IRA at a stiff tax penalty. I will also probably have to pay a sum not covered by my GAP insurance from my car accident. I've been trying to find a job, but it would be far from easy in this economy, even if I didn't have to try to explain away this termination. It's hard to feel optimistic.
