Wish me luck -- update on my situation
Apparently, some behinds were kicked about the nonsense of denying my eligibility for disability retirement after termination when the Mayor himself had signed off on it. I was notified last week that the decision had been "reconsidered" and an appointment had been set for a psychiatric second opinion on my ASD. I was told to expect a couple of hours testing. However, this psychiatrist, unlike some of the medical and mental health professionals I have encountered, knew his neurology. Once I mentioned Goldenhars, he started explaining the common neurogenesis of Goldennhars and ASD to his assistant. He seemed to consider my regular psychiatrist's diagnosis and psychological testing I had this Fall to provide sufficient material for his opinion, which I believe will be in favor of my disability retirement.
Meanwhile, I feel a bit more hopeful on the job front. I took a state test for Employment Security Representative (ironic, isn't it?) this morning and expect that my score will place me high on the register, though there is a a lot of competition in this classification. I can also hope to move forward with the Bender Consulting firm (disability placement consultants) once my psychiatrist supplies the Schedule A letter I need for federal disability hiring.
