So I work at where I have to answer phones; when I am confronted with a new situation and I have to talk to someone at the same time I feel self conscious and I start to lose it a bit. I feel like a complete idiot because I know if I were answering the same question via e-mail I would have figured it out a little quicker without the pressure of acting quickly. I am sort of a slow thinker  It is just when I am talking to another person on the phone and trying to fix their problem quickly I get nervous.

On top of all that I have the worst time hearing people over my phone, I have always had trouble hearing people over the phone, or in general conversation, I am not deaf but when I hear one word I hear a different one instead sometimes and I get confused, I have some sort of dyslexia when it comes to hearing.

Does anyone have this same problem, how do you deal with it?

I'm just like that too.
Apparently phones are often a problem for peeps on the spectrum.
I think it's partially because we depend on visual cues far more than anyone thinks and we have none with phones.
That and 'stage fright' with a knowledge that under the best circumstances (certainly not these) we still manage to nuke social interaction.
And clear hearing, I find that I partially lip read for clarity.

Huh... That's interesting, I've never heard it described like that.

But, yeah, I'm with you guys, I feel this way about the telephone as well.
