I am starting a Certificate in Community Services in July and hoping to get into Mental Health Support.
Is/has anyone worked in this field before? Was it enjoyable?
Pyschiatric conditions is one of my interests so that will be a bonus, and personal experience will be a plus.

I don't have any personal experience with it but it's a field that I'm considering trying to get into.

I worked as a counselor. It's a hard field if you're on the spectrum because you have to be good at reading nonverbal cues, not only from clients but also coworkers. And your coworkers are likely to be people persons. there's also a lot of constant change, dealing with and being on-call for a client crisis, and also dealing with company financial instability if you work at a nonprofit. Also keep in mind that the career involves doing a lot of paperwork, not all of it is helping people nonstop. If you have trouble dealing with people constantly I might suggest a more behind the scenes position, like doing research about the mentally ill or working in program evaluation or in an administrative position at a mental health program.

I work in human services and enjoy it most of the time. Over the last two years, I've stepped into more of an administrative role and don't work out in the field as much, though. I get to do a variety of things, which is good and seems to help with avoiding burnout.
