I was so sure that I would get a position at a company because they kept my resume. So I went in to interview and it went well. Then they had me take a loose leaf filing evaluation. I failed due to not paying closer attention and then the person giving it was not very direct with me about how the system worked. They found more than two errors and turned me down. She then compared my results to several people who are top students and what not and that a position like that is not for everyone.

My thoughts are that I don't really have any background in that area anyway so what would they expect? I also feel like they could have shown me the ropes.

What do you think?

It's hard to prove you've been treated unfairly in a job application. If you try they are likely to decide you're a troublemaker even if you're right, and then they can just come up with some other excuse.

It's a little like dating. If you get turned down it never seems to help to try to persuade them to reconsider, move on and don't let it get you down.

It's all a numbers game. Most job applications are unsuccessful, but if you keep at it chances are you'll find something.

I don't think they were prejudice or anything because I know that they seemed very caring. What I thought was unfair was the fact that you had to do that evaluation in an area that I have no background in and surprise surprise I failed. Then they assumed that the line of work was not for me.

Instead of willing to train me in a new area they just rather assume and that is what I did not like.

I took an eval test on Excel that I got 3 things wrong. One I had the definition backwards (ascend as compared to descend) so I think that one was fair, but the only way to "pass" a question was to do the task as the computer would accept the answer. Two of the tasks I knew 2-3 ways to do them, but on this version of Excel, there obviously was a 1 or 2-click way to do it, but I couldn't find it.

I thought the test was bogus because it tested your ability to know a specific software shortcut and not know how to complete the given task.
