Do any of you find that you utterly hate the sound of your voice? Do any of you find yourself in the double-conundrum of having a profession which requires you to listen to the sound of your voice?

I bring this up because I find myself hating my voice...and yet, I conduct interviews with people, and it seriously takes me a long time to work myself up to listening to my voice.

Suggestions?

I don't really hate my voice, it's just a bit weird, especially when recorded. To me it feels like I'm looking at myself on video, which I feel is just as weird. Seeing myself in 3rd person, instead of 1st person feels unnatural to me.

Hate my voice. Hated it more when I had a monotone.

I don't hate it, but is a bit odd listening to a recording. When I'm speaking it sounds like I have a normal voice with an average pitch and normal intonation. But when I listen to how I actually sound my voice is extremely deep, completely monotone, and with odd prosody.

My voice is very deep, and I actually like it, even though I've gotten some ribbing about it, Barry White and such.

It seems that nobody hears their voice the way other people hear it. Maybe try focusing on the content of the conversation, what you want to say/are saying, as opposed to focusing on how you sound saying it?

I really don't like the sound of my voice either.
I'd always hoped I was too self-conscious and it was just me being too hard on myself... until I recorded some podcasts and read lots of feedback about how annoying my voice is. ~sighs~ (though a small percentage disagreed and said I sounded like a sexy librarian, so, I got that going for me... funny how exactly 0% of the commentary was about the actual content of my talks)

Oh, and I just recorded a video last week and I'm already dreading the post-production reviews with the producer. UGH.

I'm a musician who sings and I've had a secret aspiration of becoming a voice actor since I was a kid. I used to hate my voice, but over time I just got used to it. The trick is just to keep listening to it; when I first started sharpening my voiceover skills, I used to spend hours recording and playing back my voice with different voices and inflections. Once the initial discomfort wore off, it didn't bother me at all. Provided, it will always sound weird hearing your recorded voice, but you won't cringe at it anymore.
