I have severe OCD and anxiety, and it causes me to ask lots of questions at work. Some of these questions are very simple questions that anyone should already know the answer to. I also sometimes repeat questions. I lack independence and I need lots of supervision. People tell me that I come off as unconfident, nervous and neurotic. I’m afraid of failure, so I ask lots of questions to make sure I do everything properly. It usually happens when I’m learning something for the first time and the first few times I do it by myself, but if I keep on doing it over and over, I can eventually do it by myself without asking questions.

Does anyone else have this same problem? Is it because of anxiety? OCD? A mix of both? Or is it something else?

How have your coworkers and supervisors responded to your behavior? Has it caused any problems? Has it caused you to be fired?

Have you overcome this problem? Have you made any improvements? What have you done to improve your situation or at least deal with it better?

Also, what do you do for work? Is it a job that involves lots of routine work or does it involve lots of change in routines and independent decision-making?

If I didn't know better, I'd say you were my husband. This sounds like him to a T. He's pretty NT for the most part, but, based on his behaviors, I'd say he's OCPD. (Do you chew on your thumbs or inside of your cheeks? That tends to be the most telltale sign.)

It hasn't caused problems with most of his jobs, but, it does with his current one. The guy he is working for now is very fast and loose with ideas and quite inconsistent on the best of days (I know because I have worked with him in the past), so it drives my husband mad, so he asks more questions and that irritates his boss who wants him to run with things (then later chastises him for doing something he wasn't supposed to). His last boss in this role was a much better personality match... Very good planner, detail oriented and fast to reply to questions so my husband didn't have to sit and wait and wonder too much.
He won't be fired... He's a good, consistent worker who never misses a deadline once he's been given a clear one.
